Italian designer Alessandro Isola has worked on villas, wine tasting rooms, and even a sofa and a coffee table which seem to appear from the creases or the folded corners of the carpet. Using this knack for creating objects appear to materialize from nowhere, Isola has designed the intriguing Orbit Sink.
Initially an unassuming white cylindrical bathroom sink, on closer inspection the piece soon reveals its more complicated nature. Multiple circular compartments swivel around an unseen metal pivot point, each potentially another storage compartment. A chrome ring located right beneath the sink circle itself serves as a towel rail and a soap tray surface. The aforementioned metal “spine” also covers the sink’s drainage, which means the piece can be placed anywhere in the room, not just close to a wall (provided you can connect it to the plumbing through the floor, of course).
The Orbit Sink is quite a remarkable piece, capable of adding a distinctive touch to any bathroom.
