Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems has just released the Momentum amplifier, a $42,000 amp that might be the most efficient audio amplifier ever made. The Momentum is pretty small at just 4 inches high but despite this… each monoblock amp delivers 300 real world watts into 8 Ohms, doubling into 4 and again into 2 Ohms at 1,200 Watts.
D’Agostino said that the key to the really compact size of this amp is the use of pure copper heat sinks with venturi cooling which provides a much more efficient heat transfer than the traditional aluminum type. The pure copper also contributes to the design of the case, giving this powerful amplifier an elegant appearance.
Dan D’Agostino was the co-founder of Krell, one of the leading names in high end audio but last year he parted ways with this them and came back with his own company. The Momentum Audio Amplifier is only the first product released by this new company but probably more ultra high-end audio gear will follow in the future.
