We’ve already heard of the Sergio Concept, a gorgeous project undertaken and materialized by Pininfarina, but the chief executive of the automotive designs brand reveals that the wonderful car could be entering limited production pretty soon.
Silvio Angori, Pininfarina’s CEO, had declared in an interview to Automotive News Europe that “five to six units” may be made sometime soon. The price for a unit will be fantastically close to the one asked for the Lamborghini Veneno, of around €3 million (or approximately $3.6 million). The Sergio is anyways based on the Ferrari 458 Spider, so it has both the power and the exclusivity of the Italian automotive industry.
Unfortunately, the most important name under the tutelage of the Pininfarina brand and its creator, Sergio Pininfarina, had passed away in July 2012 at the age of 85. The sad happening is now followed by the unveiling of this fabulous supercar, which is in fact a tribute to the late automotive star. It measures 4,550 mm in length, 1,140 mm in height and 1,940 mm in width, and weighs a superbly little 1,280 kg (2,821 lbs). The two-seater, double-door supercar hasn’t been designed with a windshield and boasts two standard-provided helmets as protection against the elements.
Performance-wise, the Sergio boasts a 4,499 cc V8 engine tied to a 7-speed sequential gearbox. It is able to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 199 mph (320 km/h). Sadly though, the car hasn’t yet been declared road legal, therefore Chief Designer Fabio Filippini admits the team behind this gorgeous car needs to fit it with additional modifications in order to make it suitable for road-driving. According to European homologation rules, it is legal to drive a windscreen-lacking car if only the driver and passengers wear helmets. In case wearing a helmet is not an option to any future customers, the brand will probably fit the car with a windshield, as Fabio Filippini mentioned.
