One of the weirdest yet interesting artists in the world, also an architect and designer, is Gaetano Pesce. When we first saw his latest creations, we were virtually stunned. And you’ll definitely be stunned as well, when you put your eyes on his limited edition tables inspired by lagoons and islands.
The collection comprises a total of 6 tables which depict different landscapes, in the shape of aerial views of bodies of water like ponds, puddles, lakes, rivers, lagoons and oceans, as they are actually seen from 10,000 meters up.
Handcrafted and intricate to the max, they superbly offer detailed, miniature views of exotic landscapes, and, furthermore, an impression of depth provided by elevated surfaces represented by trees, piers or minute cliffs, perfectly proportional to the scale they were crafted at. Measuring between 155 and 358 square inches, these limited edition tables were crafted from PVC, polyurethane foam, silicon and resin.
To give you a hint of what this fellow has created so far, we’ll state the fact that the Organic Building with vertical garden in Osaka was designed by him, alongside a series of tables designed and manufactured especially for the 150th celebration of the unification of Italy, 61 pieces which, assembled, end up forming the shape of the respective country on the map.
Among many interviews the fabled designer, architect and, mainly, artist Gaetano Pesce has given, we have selected this statement, which we considered to be the most representative: “Architecture of the recent past has mostly produced cold, anonymous, monolithic, antiseptic, standardized results that are uninspiring. I have tried to communicate feelings of surprise, discovery, optimism, stimulation, sensuality, generosity, joy and femininity.”
If it comes to our personal opinion, Mr. Pesce has created a collection of masterpieces.
