Quite an interesting piece to feature on our website, this laptop genuinely contains the first ever U.S. Presidential e-mail, sent by Bill Clinton to John Glenn. The date we’re after is the 29th of October 1998, when the space shuttle orbiter Discovery blasted its way into the upper atmosphere returning Senator John Glenn to space, more than 36 years after initially becoming the first American to ever reach Earth’s orbit and the oldest man to ever get off our planet, aged 77.
It was during those times that Bill Clinton, back then the President of the United States of America, had used this Toshiba Satellite Pro to send a message via mail to Mr. Glenn, who was on board the NASA-signed space shuttle Discovery.
Although the gadget is way lower in performance than today’s laptops and has reached the age of 14, it is up for grabs on eBay, for a reported price of $125,000. In addition to the message sent by Bill Clinton, the laptop also contains a few signed documents, like letters signed by the same Bill Clinton and the recipient, former Senator and ex-astronaut John Glenn, alongside an e-mail from John Glenn sent during the evening of the 6th of November 1998, just before Discovery’s successful landing.
The laptop is currently owned by a White House physician and also comes with a White House press release and a photo duly signed by Bill Clinton as he had shown his gratitude to the doctor.
