For some people, the classic Lotus Seven was the perfect two-seater open-top sports car, and today we’ll show you probably the ultimate reincarnation of that lovely little car, coming right from the Netherlands.
Dutch sports car maker Donkervoort has decided to tease us a bit and revealed a couple of stunning photos of the brand’s upcoming D8 GTO-RS model. The automaker stayed true to its word, and designed a successor for the record-setting D8 GTO that went around the Nurburgring in a blistering 7:14.89.
But you should know that the Donkervoort D8 GTO-RS has been started off from scratch, transforming into a leaner, meaner and more extreme machine. The visual changes from the D8 GTO aren’t massive though, but you could easily see a slightly improved nose and a redesigned front-end that will make this ride stand out.
The Audi-sourced 2.5-litre R5 TFSI engine has been also optimized, with some help from the engineers at Bosch, and even though we have no official figures yet, you should expect to see an improved acceleration and maybe even more power and better handling from this GTO-RS.
Furthermore, the collaboration with Bosch led to the development of a special launch control feature and a double-clutch function for the D8 GTO-RS; nothing, but good news, right? The interior has also been retouched, including high-quality materials with functional performance, for better comfort as well.
Donkervoort will produce only 40 vehicles like this, for a cool starting price of €151,173 ($173,758) – but you should know that 21 has been already sold, so you’ll need to hurry up if you like what you see right now.
