Mohammed VI Bridge

The newly opened Mohammed VI Bridge is Morocco’s way of celebrating engineering success and design superlative, with the longest cable-stayed bridge in all of Africa. Located just outside the country’s capital city of Rabat,  this incredible bridge pays homage to the King of Morocco, becoming an iconic new landmark for the country.

But what’s even more impressive than the bridge itself, is what happens at night, when this beauty comes to life with an extraordinary light show, powered by Philips LED lighting, which adorns the entire length of the bridge. Once the bridge’s operators choose from the available 16 million colors, the view is simply breathtaking – all at a cost effective level and with high levels of energy efficiency.

The Mohammed VI Bridge has been recently inaugurated by the person that inspired its name and spans across a section of desert connecting Rabat to the city of Salé. 3,116 feet (950 meters) long, this is the longest bridge of its kind on the African continent, boasting six lanes of vehicle traffic and spanning between two 650-foot (200-meter) tall towers.

The futuristic lighting system employs Philips Color Kinetics technology, making for a mesmerizing sight once the sun goes down, but we doubt there’s much traffic or traveling going on, since most people probably simply stop and enjoy the show. I would surely do that, and some Social Media posting wouldn’t hurt, to let people know about this man-made marvel.
