Leica is popular for more than one reason, but anyone who’s ever heard about the brand knows that their special edition options have never extended onto lenses – until now, that is. The acclaimed German company has just unveiled a new limited edition lens, called Leica APO-Summicron M 50mm f/2 ASPH, which shows off a stunning red anodized finish.

This is the company’s first lens to benefit from a special edition guise, which is why it comes with assembled-by-hand heritage and special “Made in Germany” engraving. Priced at a cool $8,950, this incredible lens comes with an eye catching red finish, that’s beautifully complemented by a matching lens cap and a gray cowhide lens case.

According to the German manufacturer, the standard versions of the M-mount 50mm lenses are well-known for offering sharp detail and high contrast, and we tend to agree with that. First introduced back in 1954, Leica still designs camera bodies with the same mount size, allowing for flexibility and a wide range of lens options for photographers.

The Leica APO-Summicron M 50mm f/2 ASPH won’t be just an excellent 50mm lens, which is finished off in red, but it might also prove to be a real collectible, as it will be produced in a limited run of only 100 units. Photographers and Leica enthusiasts  will surely want to add this precious piece to their collection.
