It was around one year ago, if memory serves, when Acura had first presented the concept of a brand new version of the famous NSX on the occasion of the 2012 North American International Auto Show. The Japanese brand is finally back into action with a revamped version of the previously mentioned concept, including a staggering interior.
The car features a superb front fascia which includes a less pronounced version of the beak-like Acura grille alongside a new carbon fiber structure that also appears on the rear and front bumpers. Clear turning signals have also been installed by Acura up front and an LED strip in the central portion of the taillights. The rear end has been garnished with a new diffuser crafted from carbon fiber alongside brand new license plate section plastic surround.
The interior is pretty minimalistic in general, boasting with a number of knobs and controls. It has been decked with a gorgeous garment consisting of Alcantara and leather, alongside carbon fiber parts on the dashboard, door panels and central console. Spokesman from Acura stated: “The interior package boasts outstanding visibility, an exotic driving position and an intuitive Simple Sports Interface that minimizes interior clutter, allowing the driver to focus on the driving experience.”
The hybrid powertrain of the car hasn’t been changed at all. It connects the direct-injection V6 engine, mounted in the middle of the car, with Acura’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) and three additional electric motors – two powering the front wheels and one integrated within the main V6 engine.
A brand new dual-clutch transmission (DCT) system makes sure all the power gets where it shall. Acura’s Vice-President of National Marketing Operations, Mike Accavitti, declared: “This further evolution of the Acura NSX Concept design is remarkably true to the original concept styling.” He also added: “We’re making a great progress in delivering on the expectations we created a year ago, with advanced technology that will bring new levels of performance and a unique, dynamic experience to the exotic sports car market.”
The NSX Concept II, the production version in fact, will reportedly be sold as a Honda throughout the world, except North America, where it will bear the Acura badge. It will be manufactured in central Ohio, in a totally new facility, while early sales are due to start at the end of 2014 or during the first months of 2015.
