Chevrolet has decided to surprise everyone at the Daytona International Speedway, by taking the wraps off the new 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. This new hardcore American beast comes with special aero technologies, an adjustable racing suspension, and exclusive tires which aim to improve driving dynamics significantly.
The track-focused 1LE package was specially designed to offer racing enthusiasts the ultimate track-day Camaro. Under the hood, it hides the same 6.2-liter LT4 V8, which develops 650 ponies and 650 lb-ft of torque, with a 6-speed manual transmission making the delivery quite an event. But official info puts this Camaro 3 seconds ahead of the standard ZL1 Coupe around General Motors’ 2.9-mile, 18-turn Milford Road Course test track.
There are many other differences between the standard ZL1 and this new 1LE version. For instance, ZL1’s Magnetic Ride shocks have been replaced with the lightweight Multimatic DSSV, now available on both ends, and Chevy has also tweaked the suspension system and added a three-way adjustable rear stabilizer bar.
Aerodynamic modifications include a giant carbon fiber rear wing, and special air deflectors and dive planes on the front fascia for some extra downforce. A fresh set of ultra light alloys has been wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires, in order to allow the driver to benefit from the right amount of grip around the track.
When can you take this beast for a ride? Well, according to Chevrolet, the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE will reach dealers later this year. We don’t know how much it will set you back though..
