This is a “wow” moment indeed, as Jaguar has officially launched the 2014 Jaguar XFR-S sportscar. This event comes after the few teasers that were released by the brand in these last weeks presenting what will be one of the most powerful series production cars that Jaguar has ever manufactured.
The car hides a monster under its bonnet, a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine, just like the XKR-S, delivering a massive 542 HP (405 kW) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque. Tied to a ZF 8-speed transmission with integrated Quickshift system, the beast is able to do the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 4.6 seconds and to reach an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h). Quite a lot for a 4-door saloon, isn’t it?
In order to better the handling of the vehicle, the engineers behind Jaguar have worked their heads out in recalibrating the Electronic Active Differential and Dynamic Stability Control system. In addition, the builders have also installed a set of larger Varuna forged alloy wheels, measuring 20 inches in diameter and wrapped in wider tires for improved grip. In terms of fuel consumption, according to EPA, the car does 15 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg combined, with medium CO2 emissions of 270 g/km.
The exterior of the Jag sports a deeper front bumper with larger lower central and side air intakes, extended side sills and a carbon fiber front splitter. The rear has been mounted a larger bumper which encompasses a carbon fiber diffuser, while the rear spoiler contributes to the ride by improving the air flow management.
The car has debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of November. Unlike the European market, 100 units will reportedly be sold in the United States. Availability and price wise, the 2014 Jaguar XFR-S will reportedly go on sale sometime during the next summer, starting at $99,000.
