It’s no surprise we’re serious fans of TAG Heuer and their amazing timepieces. And yet they still manage to impress us, through the latest, high tech Mikrotourbillon S. As years go by, the exquisite, luxury watchmakers have received numerous patents for their inventions and innovations, like the first ever bracelet chronograph accurate to 1/100th of a second, the Carrera Calibre 360, the first mechanical movement to display 1/100th of a second and oscillating pinion in the Microtimer. These are just a few among the remarkable history they’ve written as time went by.

The Mikrotourbillon represents an innovation as well. It sports two tourbillon escapements, one for the chronograph and the other for timekeeping. An addition to TAG Heuer’s series of Mikro platforms, the Mikrotourbillon S features a 45 mm Carrera case decked in rose gold and Tantalum, a black metal that provides a staggering contrast combined with the rose gold.

In addition, the timepiece sports two different halves – the right half includes the sub-dials and power reserve, while the left side houses the two tourbillons. Furthermore, it sports a crown that charges both the watch and the chronograph, in two different winding directions, another innovation signed TAG Heuer.

The mechanism, based on the Mikro platform, features a dual-frequency movement with two different barrels. One of the most accurate platforms ever mounted on wristwatches, it ranges from the 1/100th of a second mikrograph to the 2/10,000th of a second Mikrogirder.

Autonomy is on their side as well, each of them working separately – the second tourbillion runs at 50 Hz, controlling the chronograph, a feature which is able to measure 1/100ths of a second, while the other tourbillion runs at 4 Hz. The 50 Hz tourbillion completes an entire revolution in a mere 5 seconds, 12 times faster than a standard tourbillon, which usually completes an entire revolution in around 1 minute.

The best thing about the Mikrotourbillon S is that it will be made available to public, unlike other innovations from TAG Heuer that have been kept as concepts. It will soon be acquirable for $225,060 a unit. The Timecrafters Show, due to be taking place from September 14th to the 15th in New York will feature this incredible timepiece as well.
