The soul of Sri Lanka is beautifully encompassed in the country’s own flag – a lion with a sword in hand – it tells everything one needs to know about its population. What it doesn’t show is that this incredible state located south of India also hides superb hotels and resorts, where anyone could spend a dream vacation in comfort and relaxation like The Fortress, situated on its southern coast, near the old Dutch fort Galle.

Upon arriving on the local Bandaranaike International Airport, tourists can reach the resort via helicopter or car. This marvelous hotel features an architecture that links it directly to the era of Dutch colonialism. Plus, a mixture of two totally different cultures would never fit as well as it does here.

The controversial history regarding political relations between the Netherlands and Sri Lanka has had its beautiful parts reflected into what we call now “influences”.  Galle, a landmark for the Ceylon culture, hosts the gorgeous The Fortress, which superbly uses everything this country puts at disposal, now finished as a traditional seaside resort.

In total, the hotel includes 41 rooms, 2 Fortress residences and 6 Ocean Lofts to accommodate a large number of curious guests. The interiors encompass visions towards the future, with modern fittings, humongous king-sized beds, at the same time focusing on the country’s culture.

If you’re more of an adventurous person than one seeking lounge and relaxation, exploring Galle’s historic inner walls could prove quite perfect for the hot afternoons you’ll meet here. Rides along the River Madu or visits paid to the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage could make your soul ecstatic.

Looking for sports – don’t worry, the resort has a full-gym and a yoga hall specially designed for the ones like you. If one simply seeks in-water lounging, the infinity pool is the greatest place to do it. Hungry – Heat or Pepper is ready to tend to your culinary desires, be them casual or extremely squeamish.

The photos we attached are easily and better describing what we’ve been jabbering so far, plus they’ll probably make your brain start yelling at you: Go, go! Costs for a night at The Fortress start at $255, depending on your needs and desires.
