The sun scorched Sahara desert is more extreme than any other demanding environment. Vast and largely barren, the world’s largest desert is not a hospitable place at all, but that might change in the future, thanks to amazing projects like the City Sand Tower.
Designed by French practices OXO Architectes and Nicolas Laisne Associes, this skyscraper of the future is imagined to be a vertical city towering above the wilderness, dealing with the desert’s dangers and drought. It could be a futuristic oasis in Morocco’s corner of the Sahara desert, offering housing, a hotel, shops, dining and relaxation facilities and also a meteorological observatory.
The 450 metre-tall tower will look like a rock from far away but when approaching this structure you’ll notice a maze of streets that recall eastern souks.
The ground level will have a massive light filled atrium, packed with vegetation and featuring an internal pool, while the top levels will have various spaces to play, swim and pray, plus several restaurants offering sweeping panoramic views. I’d love to see this city coming to life in the future!
