Everyone has heard of the Kalimantan Island, in southern Asia. And most of all, everyone has heard of Malaysia. On the shores of the South China Sea, off the coast of Borneo (Kalimantan) and half-an-hour of ferry-ride from the closest airport in Kota Kinabalu we find the Bunga Raya Resort.

Set on a beautiful coral reef, an amazing natural environment, it’s a luxurious recreation facility with traditionally rustic influences, amongst the tropics, on the outskirts of a deep jungle. The exotic resort has its name derived from a plant, meaning “hibiscus” in Malay.

It features 47 luxurious villas within a lush tropical environment, with private balconies overlooking the crescent-shaped white beach. Extremely inviting, this place really makes you want to bathe or relax in the sun, but can also be very addictive.

The surroundings themselves are superb, not to mention that swimming among rainbow-colored fish, kayaking or yachting enhance the immensely beautiful atmosphere even more. There’s also jungle-trekking available or some culinary experiences in any of the resort’s three restaurants –the Wine Cave, the Koi and the Pantai Grill- to be tried.

After enjoying a unique atmosphere during the day, the wooden villas await with frette linens crafted by the local tradesmen by hand. For $417 a night, it’s much more than a bargain. It’s a chance to taste pure adventure.
