French automaker Renault has released its new RS 01 race car, which is set to compete starting next year in the Renault Sport Trophy, a new championship of the World Series by Renault.
The RS 01 comes with a lightweight carbon monocoque chassis and a Nismo 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine which develops over 500 hp and 442 lbs-ft (600 Nm) of torque. The Nissan GT-R-derived engine is mated to a Sadev 7-speed sequential gearbox, allowing the vehicle to reach speeds of over 186 mph (300 km/h).
Inspired by the French company’s concept cars, Renault Sport Technologies CEO Patrice Ratti has described the vehicle as “marriage between the beauty of Renault DeZir and the performance of Formula Renault 3.5” and features a prominent logo and signature LED daytime running lights positioned along the brake cooling scoops. Its sophisticated new aerodynamics package places the RS 01 between the GT3 and the DTM in terms of performance.
