Located in the charming Italian countryside, about a couple of hours away from either of Milan, Turin, or Genoa, Relais San Maurizio is a great illustration of what makes Italy such a popular destination for travelers.
The main building, perched on a hill overlooking the surroundings, used to be a monastery founded in 1619. The monks established grape cultivation and wine production in the area, a legacy which still can be felt today. In fact, Relais San Maurizio’s famed wine cellars are also home to the Michelin-starred Guido da Costigliole restaurant.
Though centuries old, the spot has only been a hotel since 2002. And while an enchanting, historical vibe is ever-present, the hotel’s accommodations, comprising 30 rooms and suites, are markedly modern, very comfortable and well-appointed. The retreat also boasts multiple amenities focusing on health, relaxation, and beauty, most notably the Monastery SPA, the Grotta del Sale (Salt Cave), a heated indoor swimming pool, and a Turkish steam bath.
