Located just eight kilometers away from the coast of Jabal Dhanna, on the private island named Sir Bani Yas, the Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara is quite a rare spot to see. The access to the resort is quite interesting. Private charter flights can take you to the island, or, if you’re not into airplanes, get there via highway E11 – a 250 kilometer drive west from Abu Dhabi to Jabal Dhanna port.

There’s also the possibility to get there from Dubai, being just 3 hours and a half away. Somewhat intriguing is the denial of access for private vehicles, on Sir Bani Yas. Cars can be parked at Marsa Jabal Dhanna, before taking a 20-minute boat ride to the island. The transfer, at your arrival, from the arrival point to the resort, is organized by the hotel. Also to be remembered that only the guests who booked into the resort in advance will have clear access.

All over the resort’s rooms, the decadent style makes its presence obvious, with hardwood floors covered by fine rugs, exquisite furnishing, advanced lighting and Egyptian cotton linens. The booking comes with a plethora of options, from various lodgings to large 2-bedroom Royal Villas with all day long butler service and rooms with pool access. The presence of light is stunning, highlighting the color patterns, intricate fabrics and proving the genuine Middle Eastern art.

If you prefer spending your time in open air, azure pools and sun bleached sands will make you feel like a god. There are a load of possible island activities, from strolling along the beach to hikes through nature, snorkeling, horseback riding at the stables, guided tours of the wildlife reserve by all-terrain vehicles and watching exotic animals. The resort’s local Souk bazaar is also available, with souvenirs and a lot of other items.

When the night gets back, the comfort of your private air-conditioned room is hard to surpass by anything. In need of a drink – the pool bar is just the throw of a stick away. In addition, there’s the option to test wine pairings and local seafood at your personal candlelit beach side “dine by design” table.

Nightly rates start at €119, but this number cannot possibly mirror all the services and amenities this resort boasts. We tell you, it’s absolutely staggering.
