There sure many things out there that satisfy boys-with-toys’ needs, but now there’s one that goes beyond. The team from the remote-controlled cars manufacturer Traxxas has been trying for 25 years to create the perfect RC car. It seems like they almost succeeded with the XO-1, a little devil that reaches speeds in excess of 100mph.
Thanks to its new iOS application and its electric AWD system, the car reaches 60mph in 2.3 seconds, and 100mph in 4.92 seconds. It’s currently the fastest RC car ever produced and it comes pre-assembled. But with this power and these speeds, comes risk. The producers warn us that the car presents risk of injury, fire or even death, and that the monster is anything but a toy.
The car runs thanks to its 1,650 kV Traxxas Big Block Brushless electric motor, energized by 3-cell, 5,000mAh lithium-polymer battery packs. To be controlled, the car requires the Traxxas Link app for iOS, through the Traxxas TQi radio system. You may control the car’s functions and personally do the settings by simply using your iPhone or iPod, docking it into the base of the device.
The features that can be viewed are the temperature, RPM, battery voltage and speed, being displayed in real time, while the control section uses sliders to let the owner personally set the throttle trim, steering sensitivity and many more. There’s also the possibility of saving presets, for different environments and roads.
The date when it’s released to the market is the 30th of December this year. It comes in a variety of tones, such as black and red. The application needed to run the XO-1 will be available starting 20th of December. The total cost of this miniature monster is $1,100.
