Cusco is Peru’s Historical Capital, a picturesque place, steeped in history, high up in the Andes. One of the best places to stay while visiting this amazing city is the Belmond Hotel Monasterio.

As the name might suggest, the resort is a former monastery, built in 1592 and remodeled as a hotel 50 years ago. It is the perfect blend of historical charm and contemporary luxury, adorned with beautiful works of art, but also featuring a state of the art oxygen-enrichment system so you won’t feel the effects of the altitude.

But even the thin atmosphere can’t keep you from enjoying the stunning surroundings. Inca ruins are everywhere, but arguably the most impressive site is Machu Picchu, a world-renowned landmark you can reach after a three and a half hour hike.

In addition to the stylish and comfortable rooms, the hotel boasts a couple of classy restaurants offering both Peruvian and international cuisine, and is also a great venue for weddings and other events.
