HYT (known as the hydromechanical horologists) will arrive this year at Baselworld with their latest major creation, the HYT H3. With their most recent release being the Skull watch, you’d think the company doesn’t have a lot of imagination, at least if the names they give their creations is anything to go by – but make no mistake, HYT is certainly not a brand that aims to be in any way conventional.
The H3 features a rectangular-shaped case that is 62mm wide by 41mm tall, crafted using titanium and platinum, as well as a linear liquid indicator for the hours along a rotating cubic linear hour scale, and a retrograde minute hand. As you can probably tell from this description (you can also see the still images and a video below), this isn’t your average timepiece.
What’s even more striking is the fact that the H3 displays the time in a 24-hour format, instead of the usual 12 hours. These 24 hours are place in a line of six cubes turning each six hours to display a new row of numbers, while a liquid indicator bar moves along them thanks to a system of bellows which can be seen at the top right and left of the movement. Finally, a pusher on the side of the case manually turns the row of hour-marker cubes, allowing the wearer to set the time.
Only 25 of this very special timepieces will be created by HYT, each priced at a massive CHF280,000. The equivalent of about $292,000, this makes the H3 the most expensive watch yet to be released by the hydromechanical horologists.
