After a couple of interesting teasers, General Motors has finally taken the wraps off the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, a new version of their lovely pony car that’s ready to battle its crosstown rival once again, the Ford Mustang. The new Camaro is 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor, looking thinner, sportier and a bit more aggressive, just like a performance coupe should look like.
Even though its exterior is not too different, the 2016 version has a ton of improvements, especially inside the cockpit and in the engine compartment. First, the base model will be offered with a 2.0L turbo engine that’s able to produce 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to take this beauty from 0 to 60 mph in just 6 seconds while doing 30 MPG on the highway.
If you want something even more powerful you could always go for the all-new 3.6L V6 engine which could deliver 330 horsepower but if you truly want to feel the power of American muscle you must go for the Camaro SS version that’s going to be powered by the 6.2L LT1 V8 out of the Corvette, which stands out with 455 horsepower.
The top of the line Camaro SS will also get magnetic ride control, high performance brakes from Brembo and will feature selectable driving modes, which is a first for a Camaro.
Inside, the new GM pony car will have a nice mix of retro touches and high-tech equipment, with a nice infotainment system that could also get a configurable 8 inch dash display. There’s also an electronic parking brake and many other goodies inside, like the Interior Spectrum Lighting which comes with 24 different ambient lighting effects on the dash, door panels and center console.
