The Sixties Iconic Collection is a tribute to the wonderful ideas and designs of the 1960s, comprising five colorful watches featuring the unique flavor and style from Glashütte Original. During the 60s, a style revolution took place as music, art, design and technology were filled with inspiration and innovative power.
All those design choices had an incredible impact on modern life and back then, in eastern Germany, the state-owned VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe launched a wristwatch that became iconic as well: the Spezimatic.
Introduced in 1964, the Spezimatic is one of the company’s most famous creations, resulting in a reliable series of automatic models, fitted with Calibres 74 or 75.
Now, Glashütte Original had decided to pay tribute to that amazing decade, by introducing the Sixties Iconic Collection. This special line comprises five elegant, colorful timepieces, with exceptional dials in unique 60s hues: Sixties Red, Sixties Golden, Sixties Aqua, Sixties Brown and Sixties Grey.
All five variations feature a highly unusual dégradé effect on the dial, the result of an extremely complex in-house process. The dials are first galvanized with great care, layers of lacquer are added by hand, while further color is carefully applied to this “canvas” using a special spray gun. This complex technique makes use of guilloche stamps, which, with the help of a 60-ton press, imprint their filigree pattern on the paper-thin dials.
The timepieces come with the typical domed dials and lightly arched hour and minute hands, both with Super-Luminova highlights. They feature softly rounded 39 mm stainless steel cases, fitted with a matching Louisiana Alligator leather strap. Power is provided by the automatic Calibre 39-52, with a power reserve of 40 hours.
