The aesthetic designs of Danish metalware brand Georg Jensen are usually enough to leave anyone breathless, but their latest collaboration is all the more impressive. Industrial designer Marc Newson has joined forces with the metalware company for a limited-edition silver tea service, and it’s exquisite, to say the least.
Made completely using sterling silver, with the edges and the bases all wrapped in rattan and finished using “responsibly sourced” mammoth tusk, the Marc Newson Tea Flavor set includes a tea pot, a coffee pot, a creamer, a sugar bowl and a tray.
The five piece set will be produced in a limited run of just 10 editions, each of them priced at a staggering £82,000 or $126,785, stamped with an ‘MN’ mark.
The tea service collection took six months to design, and was actually developed using 3D prototyping. Additionally, hand craftsmanship of Jensen’s silversmith saw more than three months of hand hammering, with the very first set being hand-hammered by a third generation silversmith. You have to agree that’s pretty awesome and the results are unparalleled.
Georg Jensen’s previous designer collaborations have included Aldo Bakker and Scholten & Baijings, and who knows what the future holds for this brand? All we know is that it will be worthy of our attention, just like this particular silverware set.
