Tesla’s Design Studio from California was the place where the electric-cars manufacturer presented their latest model, the Tesla Model X. Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, declared that the prototype cross-over differs only a little from the actual model that’s going the be put into production.

The car will come in rear-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, the second is expected to reach 60 mph from a standstill in 4.4 seconds, powered by two independent electric motors, one in the engine bay and the other on top of the rear axle. The base of the Model X is influenced by the platform of the Model S, the main difference being its weight, slightly heavier for the Model X.

Its range reaches 160 miles, but by adding a battery-pack upgrade it can be extended to 230 or 300 miles. One astonishing feature of the Tesla Model X is its entry-system. The doors are designed to open in the famous gull-wing way, but articulated in two pieces. These, incredibly, provide better access into the rear seats, the second and third rows.

Equipped with 3 rows of seats, all of them pointed towards the front, the vehicle is ready to accommodate up to seven adults, with enough luggage space inside the front and rear trunks. The car is also tall enough for shorter people to be able to stand up inside it.

The release date of this project-car is set during 2015, thus the car’s production, starting earlier, should get moving sometime during 2013 and 2014. The prices are thought to be similar to Model S’, this one starting at $49,900. Reservations for the Tesla Model X will be starting on the 10th of 2012 on their website. Get yours too, if you like the color green.
