Founded back in 1902 by Paul Arthur Schwarz and his beautiful wife Olga Etienne, Schwarz Etienne quickly became a benchmark in the watchmaking industry, impressing everyone with their incredible mechanical movements and very exclusive timepieces characterized by tradition and exceptional craftsmanship.

The company has been based in La Chaux-de-Fonds ever since it was founded, being deeply tied to its roots in the Neuchâtel mountains and for decades it was a family-run business, always delivering excellent products thanks to their brilliant master watchmakers, true craftsmen in the mastery of time.

Their mechanical timepieces have been always out of this world, and probably that’s why last year Schwarz Etienne has decided to unveil a watch inspired by the world’s most famous “UFO” event – Roswell. Simply called the Schwarz Etienne Roswell, that timepiece took everyone by surprise with its avant-garde design and a unique watch box that was similar to the alien UFO.

This year, the Swiss watchmaker has taken another step with the Schwarz Etienne Roswell Voyage, a new member of the sci-fi family that’s even more impressive than the previous timepiece. Inspired by one of Switzerland’s most famous symbols, the mysterious Matterhorn, this watch could literally take you on a voyage of space and time, with a special link to the mountain and a rare “irreversible” movement.

The Roswell “Voyage” watch actually carries a real piece of rock from Matterhorn, that was handpicked by the company’s CEO and his team during an expedition at over 3,100m altitude. It was a real challenge to integrate a symbolic piece of rock into the watch, and even though it was cut into layers of 1.5mm, it had to be polished to perfection, laser-cut once again to give it the shape of the Matterhorn and then polished one more time to give it the final look.

For one good piece of Matterhorn, embedded in the back of the dial of the watch, the watchmakers from Schwarz Etienne probably broke 10 pieces, but judging by the look of things, it was all worth it!

What’s even more impressive than this special link with the mountain is the “irreversible” ISE movement inside this timepiece, which allows you to animate the dial, at the level of the micro-rotor. It comes with an oscillating weight that’s rarely used in watchmaking nowadays, and a visible pendulum and exhaust Module.
