Not long ago, we’ve showcased BlackBerry’s latest release: the Porsche Design P’9983 Smartphone. Now, in another move which shows the Canadian company is still alive and kicking, BlackBerry is revealing a new device called Passport, a smartphone with an intriguing, unique design.
The phone seems to be aimed at working professionals, a demographic Apple seems to pretty much have a lock on. With its stainless steel frame and matte plastic construction, it seems to be quite durable, while also having a premium feel about it. It has a square 4.5-inch screen (1440 x 1440), made from sturdy Gorilla Glass 3 and with an aspect ratio of 1:1, which is very clear and easy to read. The device comes with a sizeable 3450mAh battery which is expected to last about a day and a half. As for other technical specs, the smartphone includes a quad-core 2.2GHz processor and 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization.
Apart from all of this, the BlackBerry Passport’s distinguishing feature is its great three-line QWERTY keyboard, with an additional line of soft keys above it which offers the user the numeric keys and all the other usual symbols.
BlackBerry’s new mobile phone is priced at $599 USD in the United States, $699 in Canada, £529 in the UK and €649 in both Germany and France (the two most important mainland European markets). A great device for those who favor productivity, this might just be the product that puts BlackBerry back on the smartphone map.
