Set among the hilltops which stretch along the breathtakingly beautiful Amalfi Coast, in sunny southern Italy, Palazzo Avino is a place with a lot of history behind it. Built in the 12th century, it was initially the private villa of an Italian noble family, but nowadays its doors are open to luxuriously-minded travelers from all over the world.

The hotel is perched on top of a cliff rising 1,000 feet above the sea, thus providing guests with stunning views of the Mediterranean and the picturesque fishing villages scattered in the vicinity. Accommodations include 32 rooms and 11 suites, well-appointed and decorated with handmade Vietri tiles, antique carpets, and furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries. When it comes to dining, there’s a little bit of something for everyone, from the more casual caffé or terrace to the Michelin-starred Rossellinis Restaurant, opened for dinner only.

Providing the ultimate setting for relaxation seems to be the main focus at the Palazzo Avino. There the rooftop solarium, with two whirlpools, the perfect place to bask in the sun or enjoy the sunset. There’s also a 20-meter heated outdoor swimming pool, again with great views of the sea and the mountains. Those who prefer a more active lifestyle can visit the gym, which is actually located in the gardens, under white gazebos, allowing for a workout in a setting you won’t find in many places. And finally there’s the Spa, featuring a hydro pool, sauna, Turkish steam bath, and massage and treatment cabin, as well as Carita beauty products from Paris.
