Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake

After a couple of reports earlier this week, Mercedes has announced they green-lighted a production version of the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake concept. The five-door CLS hatchback will be built at the Mercedes Sindelfingen plant and it’s scheduled to be released on the market in 2012.

Details about the production version of the Shooting Brake concept are very limited at the moment but we know it will compete with the Audi A7, BMW 5 Series GT and also with the Porsche Panamera. Dr. Dieter Zetsche declared that the decision to build the CLS Shooting Brake underscores the leading role of Mercedes Benz in regards of innovative passenger car concepts and design and that is exactly what the customers expect from their company.

The design of the production version will be probably almost like the one of the concept and under the hood it will probably get other engines from the normal Mercedes CLS class. Engines like the 250 CDI BlueEfficiency with 201 HP, the 350 CDI BlueEfficiency with 262 HP, the 350 BlueEfficiency with 302 HP and also the 500 BlueEfficiency unit with 402 horsepower.
