Eddy Merckx is widely regarded as one of the greatest cyclist of all time. He retired after a stellar career in 1978 but remained active in the pro-cycling world and established his own high-end bike manufacturing company, called Eddy Merckx Cycles. In order to celebrate the legendary athlete’s 70th birthday, the company is releasing a limited edition series of steel racing bikes under the name EDDY70.
These aren’t just vintage-looking bicycles with a steel frame. The vehicles are described by the company as “ultramodern, state-of-the-art racing bikes, improved with the best Columbus steel alloys and designed for superior performance.” The frame is made using Columbus XCr seamless steel tubes that are TIG welded, with the list of features also including a carbon fork, Campagnolo Super Record group, and EDDY70-signature Campy Bora Ultra 35 wheels.
The EDDY70 bike has been recently unveiled during an event in Brussels Eddy Merckx himself attended. Each bike is numbered and comes with a price tag of $17,500.
