Over 4,000 years after the great pyramids of Gizeh, Egypt is once again planning to build a monumental structure of that kind, as Egypt’s Housing Minister, Moustafa Madbouli, has the country plans to raise a huge skyscraper in Sheikh Zayed City.
In addition to the sky-scraper at its heart, the project, dubbed the Zayed Crystal Spark, will also include several other urban developments. Upon completion, the planned 650-foot-high building will be the tallest in Egypt, surpassing Cairo Tower, and will be surrounded by a series of government, commercial, and entertainment venues. To fund this gargantuan project, a public/private partnership has been established between real estate developers and the New Urban Communities Authority.
Sheikh Zayed City will occupy an area of about 8.5 million square feet in the heart of the Egyptian capital. We’re not saying it will rival the ancient pyramids when it is completed, but it will certainly be a spectacular sight.
