At first, there was the Devon Tread 1, a horological wonder, featuring an exposed movement with interwoven Time Belts, indicating the exact time through that innovative system. The California-based design laboratory, Devon, manufacturer of the aforementioned wristwatch, is now enticing us with a Steampunk edition of it, based on an antithetic principle of retro and futurism.
The initial purpose of the Steampunk edition was to serve as a concept watch, but, as it raised a lot of fuss among the Devon-fanatic crowds, it was manufactured as a series. It sports a bolted brass casing and a conveyor belt system based on aeronautic engineering.
Worth mentioning, the conveyor belts the watch works with are just two microns thick, moving the numerals perfectly into positions, with precise synchronization, with their movement being fully controlled by an optical recognition system. It is powered by a lithium battery, which self-recharges via wireless induction.
The Steampunk design has its origins back in the Age of Steam – one of the most important industrialization periods in history, between 1700 and 1914 -, this particular timepiece being a true symbol of the ideas on which the respective style relies.
