There’s more to Chanel than putting on stunning fashion shows and revealing amazing collections every single season. The renowned fashion label has decided to go back to its roots, purchasing Gabrielle Chanel’s superb Villa La Pausa just a while ago.
Located somewhere in the south of France, this villa is the only home owned by Coco Chanel that was fully commissioned according to her every desire. During the Twenties, the founder of Chanel had visited the area, and was captivated by this five acre plot, which was home to wild olive and orange groves at the time.
Immediately, the French fashion designer sought to build her dream Mediterranean villa, with architect Robert Streitz having completed the construction of this stunning villa back in January 1930.
As you’d expect from Chanel, the furnishings were new, simple and extremely futuristic for that period. It’s not really a surprise that the elegant woman made a lasting mark on architectural design with her refined taste. Villa La Pausa was sold once the Duke of Westminster died, in 1954, to American author and editor Emery Reves.
Personalities such as Winston Churchill, Greta Garbo and Jacqueline Onassis were invited there, which is why it raised all eyebrows once it was listed for sale back in May 2013, by Sotheby’s, for about $45 million. The villa will go through extended renovations, to show off the unique and timeless style of Chanel.
