Google’s thought-provoking Project Ara is based on the idea that you could personalize your own phone one day, a modular device with all the components you’d want or need – including upgrades, different color themes and so on – just like kids playing around with LEGO bricks.
Supported by various rumors and such, Google’s attempt to make this modular Android smartphone a reality has been in the making for the past 3 years. And it’s all finally coming true, since Google’s ATAP division has announced that the Ara modular phone will be available to developers by fall, with consumer models expected to reach us by 2017.
As said, this incredible modular phone concept looks just like a smartphone constructed out of LEGO bricks, with each brick representing a distinct feature or function – display, battery, data storage, and so on. This would make for an individually-customized phone, not to mention a fun toy for everyone.
Google Ara will be a smartphone that meets your every need, and will transform into the next best thing whenever you decide it’s time for a change. A modular smartphone also makes damages a thing of the past – just pop out the broken block, replace it with a new one and you’re good to go.
