If you didn’t know this yet, BMW is celebrating 100 years of existence this year, which is a pretty solid reason to celebrate, right? Even better, the 50th anniversary of the brand’s iconic 2002 Turbo is also coming up pretty soon, and that’s exactly why the Bavarian automaker has decided to honor this automotive jewel.
As such, BMW has designed and built this incredibly-looking 2002 Hommage Concept, which was unveiled at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este since there’s probably no better place for a premiere like this. People who were there last week had a lot of extraordinary cars to see, admire and talk about, but the awesomeness of this concept was at another level.
The 2002 Hommage Concept parades around with some widened hips, not to mention those unavoidable 2002 traits, among which are the single headlamps with ‘eyebrow’ turning signals, the slanted shark nose, and a carbon fiber horizontal band.
Reminding everyone about the glorious 1970s, the 2002 Hommage concept also shows off a deep front apron, BMW Motorsport livery and the much-needed “turbo” lettering. The compact design study was built around a longer wheelbase and rides on large 20″ multi-spoke alloys wrapped around in low profile tires.
At that time, 50 years ago, BMW was at the top of its game, with the 2002 sitting proudly above the rest of the competition. That seems like a good reason to praise its glory, although BMW didn’t release any details on the powertrain on this incredible vehicle.
You might remember that M2’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo brags about 370 PS (365 hp), making this concept a pretty fast ride but don’t go expecting to see this on the production line any time soon. It’s just another beautiful Hommage concept from BMW, one of the best if you ask us.
