Being backed up by a short history, the 4N mechanical concept has finally been presented this year as a fully functional prototype. The mechanism has undergone a number of revisions since it was first presented at the Baselworld 2010 as a concept and then at Baselworld 2011 incorporated by the 4N-MVT01 prototype, designed and manufactured by Francois Quentin.
The timepiece, based on the 4N, is crafted from white gold and encompasses a high tech mechanism with complex functionality – the watch embodies an intricate system of rotating discs that display the hour and 6 discs which indicate the minutes, while a transparent sapphire crystal guards the back.
Comprising a 12-hour digital display, the hand-wound movement runs at 21,000 vibrations per second, thanks to a whopping 237 hour power reserve and an entire suite of 520 components. Such an exquisite timepiece is not something you would simply mass-produce. Thus, it comes in a limited edition of just 16 units, each one bearing a price tag of $187,000.
