French luxury brand Cartier is once again set to impress with their latest creation, the superb Rotonde de Cartier Astrocalendaire. Classified by the company as a “technical creativity” piece, it represents the Cartier vision of timekeeping, something that is at the same time different and innovative.
The platinum-cased 45mm watch features a multi-tier, concentrically laid out perpetual calendar (which means it keeps track of the day of the week, date and month). The 9459 MC movement uses a mechanical memory to keep track of the passage of time though the year, yet in spite of the system’s complexity, the watch is remarkably easy to use. While typical perpetual calendars use either sub-dials or apertures with discs for their calendar displays, the Astrocalendaire uses the movement of the bridges together with rotating blue PVD wheels, making the date instantly visible even at a quick glance.
The limited edition collection is limited to 100 timepieces and comes with a price tag of around $200,000.
