One of the most noteworthy cars to be displayed in Detroit during this month’s North American International Auto Show is the new Ford GT.
The vehicle is similar in design to the original model, with some alterations in the looks department and optimized aerodynamics in order to reduce drag and generate more downforce. It has upward-swinging doors granting access to the carbon fiber passenger cell while at the back there’s an active spoiler which is automatically adjusted depending on road conditions. Moreover, the new Ford GT heavily features lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber, allowing it to boast one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production car in the world.
That power comes from a new mid-mounted twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine which churns out over 600 bhp (447 kW), which is then sent to the rear 20-inch wheels (wrapped around in specifically designed Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tires) via a dual-clutch seven-speed transaxle transmission. The cabin, on the other hand, is simple yet functional, with an F1-inspired steering wheel, a fully digital and configurable instrument cluster, in addition to Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system.
The new Ford GT will enter production by the end of the year and is set to be released in 2016.
