Maurice Lacroix’s Latest ‘Masterpiece’: Gravity

Swiss luxury brand Maurice Lacroix has added another great watch to its “Masterpiece” collection – the Masterpiece Gravity. The new timepiece’s distinguishing feature is its use of silicon components for the caliber ML230 (the brand’s 13th manufacture movement).

The Masterpiece Gravity is the first watch from Maurice Lacroix to use a silicon assortment: balance roller, lever and escapement wheel. This was done in collaboration with Haute Ecole Arc, using in-house development resources. The caliber is relatively simple and elegant, consisting of only 188 components. It oscillates at a slower than usual frequency of 2.5Hz, which the watchmaker says is ideal for silicium, as it is gentler to the glass-like material.

Regarding the timepiece’s look, the off-center hour and minute display are set on a white lacquered dial which is domed at its center and retained with two mirror-polished screws. It also features a minute rail edge with rhodium indexes for the contemporary model, while the classic model comes with Roman numerals with blued hands, giving it a more traditional look. The small seconds display partially projects over the disclosed silicon balance assortment.
