Ferrari has officially showcased the new FXX K. The car was initially known as LaFerrari XX, since it is based on the LaFerrari model, the Italian automaker’s first hybrid, while the K in its name comes from the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) it employs.
It comes with a 6.2-liter V12 engine churning out 860 PS (633 kW), which together with its 190 PS (140 kW) electric motor yields a massive output of 1050 PS (772 kW), while the maximum torque is 990 Nm (664 lb-ft).
The HY-KERS system has a control unit which allows the driver to choose from one of four different modes (Qualify, Long Run, Manual Boost, and Fast Charge), each with its own focus on power, consistency, or efficiency.
The FXX K was designed with performance in mind. At the front of the vehicle there’s a twin-profile spoiler, as well as a large splitter, 30 mm lower than the standard one. An endplate, a dive plane, and vertical fins channel the air towards the car’s flanks, which generates “a longitudinal vortex that creates a localized depression.” All of these result in remarkable improvements in the vehicle’s aerodynamics, making the track-focused machine
Set to be launched next year, the Ferrari FXX K will be offered to a select group of clients, with whom the company will conduct a test program over the next couple of years. Pricing details and the size of the release are yet to be announced.
