Zenith have released a new version of its El Primero Striking 10th, one with a carbon case in addition to the titanium and silicon movement: the El Primero Lightweight. It is a more modern version of the 2010 release, which features a center-set seconds hand which sweeps the dial once every 10 seconds (hence the name).
The interesting thing about the new piece is that most of its movement is made of titanium (the mainplate, bridges, and also the chrono pushers). The double chronograph wheel and escapement are made of silicon. All of this adds up, making this version of the El Primero caliber about a quarter lighter that the standard one (or 5.64 grams, to be precise).
And it certainly doesn’t do any harm to the aesthetics of the watch, quite the contrary. Add the Nomex fiber strap, and you have yourself an elegant, exclusive watch with a moder, hi-tech look. How exclusive? Well, only 100 Zenith El Primero Lightweight timepieces have been made.
