We have been eagerly expecting the grand opening of the Yas Waterworld over the last months and now we’ve got good news for everyone. Covering a massive 15 acres and featuring 43 rides, Yas Waterworld is due to be opened in December 2012. What a hoot!

Yas Waterworld is an integral part of Yas Island, which, besides the entertainment park, features the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the Yas Links Golf Course and the Yas Marina Circuit, three absolutely grandiose projects that have already come to life.

The amusement park was already appointed the “world’s most exciting waterpark construction site” by The Theme Park Guy, the fabled online portal expert in the business of entertainment. Thematically, it is based on The Legend of the Lost Pearl, with each element depicting the story of the young Emirati girl Dana, whose aim is to bring prosperity to the village she comes from.

The building process began during February 2011 and right now the finishing touches are being added. The project is the first ecologically certified waterpark in the Middle East, clearly one of the biggest waterparks in the world and certainly the largest in the Middle East. An intriguing additional integrated project is the Yas Hotel, home of the world’s largest LED project.

As for the particular amusement areas, we would like to enumerate the first Tornado in the Middle East, the Dawwamma ride – which will create the first hydromagnetic powered tornado in the world – consists of a 20 meter high funnel which, by using hydromagnetic power, propels six riders uphill, at one time, the Slither sides which bring forth six different themes over five rides, thus giving tourists a whopping 30 types of experiences, plus the Bomber, which is the first roller coaster in the world to feature on-board water and laser special effects. In addition, there’s the Bubbles’ Barrel, the largest surfable sheet wave surf in the world.

Additionally, and besides the entertainment venues, there are all sorts of merchandise stores, three different restaurants and a Pearl Shop. There are also some interesting events to be taken in consideration, as we’ve learned from the park’s builders – for example – the “women’s only night”.

The two big names that have tended to the project are Farah Leisure Parks Management, which operates the park, and Aldar Properties, who have carefully developed it. They promise the amusement park will be opened to guests 7 days a week, from 10 A.M. to 7 P.M. We can’t wait to get a taste of this magnificent project!
