Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia is a great Khmer-style resort now offering a wellness escape experience which will culminate in running the 18th Angkor Wat International Half Marathon in December.

The week of training begins with a blessing from a local monk, after which attendees will be whipped into shape by fitness instructor Malik Lomax, who will lead the warm-up and boot camp-style training session. All of this takes place among stunning historical monuments such as Angkor Thom (the last capital of the Khmer Empire), Bantei Srei, a 10th century monument dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, and Beng Melea, a ‘jungle temple’ that dates back to the 12th century. Training will also include such activities as mountain bike rides, jogging, and cross-fit exercises.

Diet is also very important when preparing for such a grueling endeavor as a half marathon, but the resort takes care of this as well. Guests will be served healthy and tasty dishes: protein-rich breakfasts, spring rolls, grilled and steamed seafood, quinoa salads, and vegetable frittatas.

When not engaging in exercises designed to prepare them for the big event, guests can explore the unforgettable surroundings and take advantage of all the wonderful facilities the Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor hotel has to offer.

The wellness escape takes place at the end of the year, between November 30 and December 7, with the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon taking place on the final day. There are only 16 places available and bookings must be made by November 1.
