Almost a decade ago someone from Gnigl near Salzburg, Austria, turned to architect Markus Voglreiter with a crazy idea: transform his home into something that resembles the Volkswagen Beetle. It might seem impossible to make, but his dream, the “Auto Residence”, came true in 2003 when the project was completed.

The house had headlamp shaped windows, suspension spring-themed columns inside and its apparently even eco friendly using a 3 liter energy heating and insulation technique that optimizes all current building techniques, drastically reducing energy usage.

The Volkswagen home was such as hit that the architect went ahead and designed a larger and even more eye catching version in the form of a restaurant and bar called “The Car. Das Auto”. This restaurant is located in the same area and it is said to cost approximately €1.6 million to build.

Both these Volkswagen Beetle inspired Restaurant and House are located in Salzburg, Austria and, if you want to turn your car into your house, it seems that it’s possible to do it!
