Croatian startup Rimac worked hard on this extraordinary project for over five years and now the Concept_One supercar is finally here. We will say, right form the start, that only 8 units will be made and the price for one of these beauties hasn’t been officially disclosed yet. Rimac has hinted a starting price of around €800,000 ($880,000), which means that not too many people could afford one.
Compared to the original Concept_One, the production vehicle shows off tweaked LED fixtures on both ends, additional vents and a larger diffuser on the rear bumper, while the cameras have been replaced by conventional door mirrors.
On the inside, the design study’s twin screens for the mirrors are long gone and a new slanted center console is present, hosting a large touch-screen.
Buttons, machined from billet aluminum, activate Concept_One’s dynamics and powertrain functions, such as the Rimac All Wheel Torque Vectoring System. Speaking of powertrain, the supercar’s electric heart includes four permanent magnet electric motors, one for each wheel, delivering a combined 1073 hp (1,088 PS) and 1,600 Nm (1,1795 lb-ft) of torque – awesome numbers, right?
Rimac’s powertrain includes four gearboxes – a single speed transmission for each of the front motors, and a two-speed carbon fiber double clutch transmission for each of the rear motors. An All Wheel Torque Vectoring (R-AWTV) system acts as a traction control, stability control and “electric ABS”, and it also handles the 4-wheel regenerative braking system.
All of those impressive features mean nothing without a powerful battery pack, which in this case was designed to deliver 1000 kW or 1MW of power during acceleration. The Rimac Concept_One will do 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.6 heart-stopping seconds, 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 6.2 seconds and will reach a top speed of 355 km/h (221 mph).
