Having trouble deciding between the Porsche Macan S and Turbo variants? Not any more, as Porsche introduced the new GTS model at this week’s Tokyo Motor Show. The Porsche Macan GTS benefits from an upgraded version of the ‘S’ model’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which now develops 355 hp and 500 Nm of torque.
The twin turbo engine has been mated to a standard seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission which, together with Porsche’s Traction Management system (PTM), will allow the vehicle to do 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.2 seconds, or in 5.0 seconds if you opt out for the optional Sport Chrono Package. Top speed stands at 257 km/h or about 160 mph.
According to Porsche, the Stability Management system has been improved as well and the brakes now show off 360 mm front rotors, with six-piston fixed calipers finished in red, and 330 mm rear rotors, with single-piston calipers, at the back. There’s also a new sports exhaust system and a new air suspension, as the GTS is riding 10mm lower than the Turbo version.
There are also some subtle aesthetic changes, such as black exterior accents and 20-inch ‘RS Spyder’ alloys finished off in Satin Black, as well as LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights.
Inside the cabin, the ew GTS gets standard leather sport seats, an upgraded audio infotainment system, and a GTS Package with Carmine Red tachometer and deviated stitching, seat belts, and embroidered GTS logos on the headrests. Starting March 2016, you can get one for $67,200 – excluding destination.
