Swiss watchmaker Azimuth is well-known for using heavily modified base ETA movements to create unusual, avantgarde complications that will shock and awe everyone. And they’ve done it again at Baselworld 2016, unveiling a gorgeous timepiece that petrolheads will surely appreciate: the Azimuth Twin Turbo watch.
The 1960s was definitely the golden age of car design, a period when automotive icons like the Ferrari 250 GTO and the Jaguar E-Type have been brought to life, among many other beauties. Back then, the design process did not involve any computers, with talent and vivid imagination being the only things standing behind one of these four wheel masterpieces.
The design of the Azimuth Twin Turbo has been also heavily influenced by this era, with a wonderful case that’s reminiscent of an engine block, crafted out of stainless steel and featuring polished and matte-finished parts. The latter are concealed by the “bonnet”, which was constructed out of anodized aluminum, and can be lifted if the owner so desires.
The twin crowns are an interesting, yet useful feature of this watch. Each dial hides a vintage ETA caliber 2512-2, a small hand-wound movement used for ladies’ watches in the 1960s. Please note that each dial is independently powered, which means two different time-zones can be chosen.
A ribbed leather strap acts as the finishing touch, making sure the vintage vibe is always felt. The Azimuth Twin Turbo will be available in a number of different colored covers: yellow, anthracite, silver, and red.
Part of a limited series of just 88 units, each, the Azimuth Twin Turbo watch will cost 6,000 CHF. The red version will be a special boutique edition, called the Azimuth Twin Turbo Portfolio, which will be limited to just 50 pieces, associated with a 6,300 CHF price-tag.
