You probably haven’t heard of Magnum yet, but after you’re going to look at their newest project, the Magnum MK5 supercar, their name will be stuck in your head for weeks. The MK5 is a new ultralight supercar that’s meant to give you the thrills and speeds of a formula 1 car right on the public roads.
It has a mid engine, rear wheel drive architecture and it’s powered by a small 4 cylinder engine that’s able to produce an impressive 250 horsepower and could rev up to 11,000 rpm. But the Magnum MK5 has a weight of just 545 kg (or 1,200 lbs), which leads to a jaw dropping acceleration, with a 0 to 100 km/h (0-62mph) time of just 3.2 seconds.
It has a power to weight ratio of 460 HP per ton and it’s apparently able to pull up to 2 Gs during cornering and also it could reach a top speed of 240 km/h (150 mph). All this power is sent to the rear wheels of this beauty through a 6 speed sequential transmission and a limited slip differential.
The Magnum MK5 features a carbon-fiber composite body that’s very aerodynamic and includes an aggressive front wing, a lat underbody and a rear diffuser as well. It even has a small boot, but that’s only useful if you want to carry two helmets and a briefcase because that’s all the luggage space you’ll get.
This small supercar also comes with an adjustable pushrod activated suspension, two way adjustable dampers and also adjustable anti roll bars for the perfect driving experience. Inside, it has carbon fiber composite seats, a water resistant steering wheel with quick release, a modern data acquisition system and a rear drive monitor.
In case you’re interested in buying a Magnum MK5, you should know that the company plans to produce only 20 units every year, each of them with a price of $139,000. That’s not much more expensive than its direct competitors, the Ariel Atom, the KTM X Bow or the BAC Mono.
