The new Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard was developed with the safety and body integrity of heads of state, business leaders and perhaps dictators in mind. With that being said, it’s safe to speculate that everyone who’s rich and famous will want one, especially since this luxurious sedan is the first vehicle to be certified with the highest ballistic protection level VR10 for civilian vehicles.

Its bodywork and windows can withstand hardened steel core bullets fired from an assault rifle, although from an aesthetic point of view you can’t really tell. Special protective components have been also integrated into the cavities between the outer skin and body structure, while the thick windows are fixed and coated with poly-carbonate on the inside, for splinter protection.

Passengers are also safe from explosive devices too, whether they are detonated at the side or beneath the vehicle. The underbody armoring of the S600 Guard is truly unique and covers the entire occupant compartment. But this doesn’t mean owners will be riding in a military atmosphere, without the comforts and luxury they so desire.

Future buyers of this extraordinary vehicle will still get to enjoy the same executive seats, with all the comforts and luxury options as the regular model S600. But the super-safe, armored version, will cost a lot more than the standard model, with the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard starting off at €470,000 ($522,970), taxes included. If you need protecting, money is no object.
