You might think the Ford Mustang Thunderbirds Edition is yet one more way for the American carmakers to show off their abilities. A fierce limited edition four-wheeler, the Mustang Thunderbirds Edition has actually been built to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the US Air Force Aviation Team.
The car was auctioned off, for charity, back on the 1st of August at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The proceeds were reportedly directed towards the EAA Young Eagles organization. Specifically about the car, the Thunderbirds Edition is in fact a 2014 Ford Mustang GT – the VIN 0001. It has been done up in glossy red, blue and white, the same tones found on the color scheme of the F-16 Falcon jet fighters the aviation team currently uses. Powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine, this special edition is able to deliver quite a punch. In addition, it comes with all sorts of logos, wide body kit and a gorgeous glass roof.
The wide body kit was designed and manufactured by TS Designs, while the “belly pan” was put together by Creations n’Chrome, providing a F-16-like look. Forgiato have also put their sweat into the project through a set of 22-inch alloys. Inside, the cabin comprises a modified navigation screen, new instrument cluster and lacks rear seats. It has been fitted with Recaro seats, puddle lamps and brand new sill plates.
Power – yes, the Thunderbirds Edition comes with more HP than the stock Ford Mustang, thanks to a racing supercharger. The controls have also been bettered, thanks to a set of Brembo brakes and upgraded suspension system.
